Prepare your book file

Supported formats, scan quality, chapter headings, and upload tips.

4 min read

A well-structured source file produces cleaner chapters and fewer narration interruptions. A few quick checks before upload can save time later.

Supported formats

  • EPUB is recommended for published ebooks with chapter structure.
  • PDF works best when it contains selectable text rather than page images.
  • DOCX is useful for manuscripts and works in progress.
  • TXT supports simple, unformatted text.

Clean up the text

  1. 1

    Remove repeated material

Delete duplicate covers, title pages, running headers, and footers when possible.

  2. 2

    Use clear chapter headings

Keep chapter names on their own line and use consistent heading styles.

  3. 3

    Check unusual text

Review tables, footnotes, equations, image captions, and pronunciation-sensitive names.

Scanned PDFs

If each page is an image, use optical character recognition (OCR) before uploading. To check, try selecting and copying a sentence from the PDF. If you cannot, the file likely needs OCR.

Frequently asked
